We're back—with books, a show, and a surprise!
Hello everyone, and very belated Happy New Year!
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season with your loved ones. I’m writing a little later than planned, as I spent the last stretch of December battling the flu (twice!), which reminded me that even small-time publishers need to hit the pause button sometimes. Now that I’ve finally caught up with emails and messages (almost), I’m excited to kick off 2025 with you all!
Looking back, the last quarter of 2024 was quite a ride—ephemere. traveled to Singapore, Taiwan, and Malaysia, and I had a great time representing our talented photographers at various fairs. Before the year wrapped up, I took a week in Kyoto for a workshop, finally giving my own personal projects some well-deserved attention. That was followed by a not-so-fun stretch of being bedridden, but hey, what’s life without a little irony?
Now, onto the exciting things ahead!
Anarchyº2: The Most Awaited Announcement
Drumroll, please! Our latest group publication, Anarchyº2, is here, and we are thrilled to announce the 143 selected photographers whose works made the final cut. Huge thanks to our incredible guest curators—Cecile Baldewyns, Guido Gazilli, Joe Grant, and Susana Barbera—for their keen eyes and dedication. And, of course, a round of applause for Federico Zavatta, whose design work once again exceeded all expectations. As for the editing and sequencing? That was handled by yours truly, and let’s just say Anarchyº2 takes an even bolder, more imaginative leap than its predecessor.
Both Anarchyº1 and Anarchyº2 are now available!
A Long Lineup of Solo Publications
While Anarchyº2 kicks off the year, we have several solo publications lined up for the rest of 2025. We're keeping the details under wraps for now, but here's a little teaser: these photo books delve deep into personal narratives, life stories, and cherished memories. ephemere.'s reach is growing, and we're honored to share the intimate works of photographers whose voices deserve to be heard. More on this as each project unfolds…
More Open Calls, More Opportunities
This year, we're putting an even bigger spotlight on publications, which means more Open Calls: introducing unconventional themes that push the boundaries of seeing—and storytelling—through photography. Keep your eyes peeled for our announcements!
Group Exhibition in March
Even though we're scaling back on exhibitions this year to focus on books, we are holding a special group exhibition in collaboration with Docu Magazine. Mark your calendars for March 29-30 and see the works of 25 photographers from around the world. Special thanks to Tuomas Koskialho for making this possible, even through the many challenges along the way!
A Little Mystery to End With…
Before I go, here’s a cliffhanger for you: something even more exciting is brewing behind the scenes—something to do with our Journal. Alongside our brilliant Editor, Khanjan Purohit, our amazing Designer, Federico Zavatta, and our dedicated team of writers, we’re working on something very special. What is it? You’ll find out soon enough. 😉
Thank you all for being part of ephemere. Here’s to another year of photography, storytelling, and meaningful collaborations!
Sincerely,
Anne Murayama
